Any entity that provides a service on the Internet is an ISP.

An entity that provides IP connectivity to the Internet via any media is an
Internet Access Provider.

An entity that provides space for Internet accessible content is a
hosting provider. Internet accessible content includes web pages, FTP,
email, news, etc.

An entity that provides access to applications over the Internet is an
Application Service Provider. An ASP does not serve up data, which is
provided by the user. A hosting provider, serves data to applications
run by the user.

Each of these three categories provides a different kind of service.

There is also an entity termed as a telco, which provides only the
physical and logical link layer to the end customer.

(I am referring to the OSI model when I refer to layers).
